These API Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the CountryTaxCalc API ("API"), operated by CountryTaxCalc.com ("we", "us", "our"). By signing up for API access, you ("Customer", "you") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the API.
These Terms supplement our general Legal Disclaimer and Privacy Policy, which also apply to your use of the API.
api.countrytaxcalc.com, including all endpoints, data, and documentation.countrytaxcalc.com/api/.Subject to these Terms and timely payment of fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the API solely for the purpose of building and operating your own software products and services.
Your access is governed by the Plan you selected. Each Plan includes a monthly request allowance, endpoint access rights, and a burst rate limit. Full details are listed on our pricing page and in the Documentation. We may update Plan features with 30 days' notice.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the API at any time with reasonable notice. For paid customers, "reasonable notice" means a minimum of 30 days except in cases of security threats, legal requirements, or abuse.
Paid Plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. Fees are charged to the payment method you provide at signup and processed by our payment provider, Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorise us to charge the applicable fees on a recurring basis.
Monthly billing: Your subscription renews automatically each month on the anniversary of your signup date.
Annual billing: Your subscription renews automatically each year on the anniversary of your signup date. Annual plans are priced at 10 months' cost (equivalent to approximately 17% off the monthly rate).
Price changes: We will provide at least 30 days' written notice before increasing subscription fees. Continued use of the API after the effective date of a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
Taxes: Prices shown exclude VAT, GST, and other applicable taxes. Tax is calculated and collected automatically at checkout based on your billing address in accordance with applicable law.
Failed payments: If a payment fails, we will retry automatically and notify you by email. If payment remains unsuccessful after 14 days, your API Key may be suspended. Access is restored immediately upon successful payment. Subscriptions unpaid after 30 days will be cancelled.
If your API usage exceeds the monthly request limit included in your Plan, overage requests are billed at the per-1,000-request rate shown on our pricing page for your Plan.
Overage charges are calculated at the end of each monthly billing period and charged to your payment method separately from your base subscription fee. You will receive an email notification when your usage reaches 80% of your Plan's monthly limit.
Annual plans: Annual subscriptions do not include overage billing. When you reach your annual request limit, additional requests
will be rejected with a 429 response. You will receive email warnings at 80% and 95% usage.
To increase your limit, contact us to discuss an upgrade.
You can avoid unexpected overages by upgrading your Plan at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal accessible from your dashboard, or by emailing daniel@countrytaxcalc.com.
Upon cancellation, your API Key will remain active until the end of the current Subscription Period. We do not provide pro-rated refunds for unused time within a paid period, except as set out in Section 6 (Refunds).
After cancellation, your API Key will be deactivated at the end of the Subscription Period. Request logs and account data are retained for 90 days following cancellation, after which they are permanently deleted.
New subscriptions: If you are not satisfied with the API, you may request a full refund within 7 days of your initial payment by emailing daniel@countrytaxcalc.com. Refund requests submitted after 7 days will not be honoured.
Renewals: Refunds are not available for renewal charges. If you wish to cancel, do so before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
Annual plans: Refunds on annual plans are available only within the first 7 days. No partial refunds are provided for unused months after the 7-day window.
We reserve the right to decline refund requests where we determine abuse of this policy has occurred.

Your API Key is confidential. You are responsible for keeping it secure and for all API usage made with your Key, whether authorised by you or not.
You must not commit your API Key to version control systems (e.g. GitHub), embed it in client-side code, or otherwise expose it publicly. If your API Key is compromised, you must rotate it immediately from your dashboard.

Important: CountryTaxCalc API provides income tax rate data sourced from official government tax authorities. Data is audited quarterly and updated within 30 days of confirmed rate changes. This API is intended for directional salary comparison, relocation planning, and HR product features — not as a substitute for professional tax advice, payroll compliance software, or legal counsel.
Tax law is complex and varies by individual circumstances. Individual tax positions depend on personal allowances, deductions, filing status, residency status, and other factors that the API does not model for every jurisdiction. Calculations are approximations.
You are required to include appropriate disclaimers in any product or service that uses the API to display tax calculations to end users. Recommended language: "Tax estimates are approximate and for informational purposes only. Consult a qualified tax professional for advice specific to your situation."
We make no warranty that the data is complete, accurate, current, or suitable for any particular purpose. See Section 11 (Warranties) for the full disclaimer.
The current API version is v1, accessible at https://api.countrytaxcalc.com/api/v1/.
Non-breaking changes (new optional fields, new endpoints, performance improvements) may be made at any time without notice.
Breaking changes (removed fields, changed response structures, removed endpoints) will be introduced only in a new API version (e.g. v2). Version 1 will remain fully supported for a minimum of 12 months following the announcement of any new version. We will notify all active subscribers by email when a new version is announced.
Rate change notifications: We publish a changelog at countrytaxcalc.com/api/changelog/ whenever
country tax rates are updated. We do not guarantee notification of individual rate changes by other means.
THE API IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY.
We do not warrant that: (a) the API will be error-free or available at all times; (b) tax rate data will be accurate, complete, or up to date at the moment of any particular request; (c) the API will meet your specific requirements.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE API SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL FEES PAID BY YOU IN THE THREE MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) £50.
WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR REPUTATIONAL DAMAGE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS OUR LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE, FRAUD, OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED BY LAW.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CountryTaxCalc.com and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the API in violation of these Terms; (b) your products or services that incorporate API data; (c) any claim by your end users related to tax information you display using the API; or (d) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.
Enterprise Plans are subject to a separate written agreement that supplements or supersedes these Terms where specified. If you are on an Enterprise Plan, the terms of your individual agreement take precedence over these Terms in the event of any conflict.
Enterprise-specific commitments (SLA uptime targets, dedicated support response times, white-label usage rights) are defined exclusively in the individual Enterprise agreement and do not apply to other Plans.
We may suspend or terminate your API access immediately and without notice if: (a) you breach these Terms; (b) we reasonably suspect abuse, fraud, or illegal activity; (c) we are required to do so by law or a court order.
In the event of termination for breach, no refunds will be provided. Sections 9, 11, 12, 13, and 16 survive termination of these Terms.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at daniel@countrytaxcalc.com and attempt to resolve the matter informally within 30 days.
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify active subscribers by email at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect. For non-material changes (clarifications, corrections), we may update without notice.
Your continued use of the API after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must cancel your subscription before the effective date.
The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects when these Terms were most recently changed.
